Welcome back to a #ThoughtFULLThursday. My name is Casey Hasten. I’m an Executive Recruiter, Director of Recruiting with VIP, and all-around hiring guru.
Today I have two questions for you. The first one is what is your level of commitment? I recently witnessed an athlete training for an Ironman, and I am not sure that everyone knows what that is, so I just want to run down through it real quick. It starts with a 2.4-mile swim (sometimes with alligators), followed by 112-mile bike ride followed by (yeah, there’s more) a 26.2-mile run, also known as a marathon. So the second question is what does it take for an athlete to be able to do 140.6 miles of exercise in one day?
I had an opportunity to ask an athlete who completed an iron man recently how it all started and I do not think his answer will be that surprising to you guys. He said it all started with his mindset. It started with him believing he could cross that finish line at the end of 140.6 miles. Napoleon Hill, one of the great thought leaders of our time say, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” I think this is a great testimony to that.
The second thing he told me was that it took commitment and it was a lot of commitment on his part, but he made a plan and he executed that plan. He trained every day and ate healthy to fuel his body so that it was ready for this event. Another Ironman was quoted as saying, “Success is a daily set of tasks.”
This last piece of advice is going to seem like a no brainer, but you have to show up. You have to show up to your event and be present. You cannot start if you do not show up.
So my second question to you today is, what is your Ironman? Is it a promotion? Is it maybe buying a new house? For me, my Ironman is writing a book and I started out much the same as the athlete did. I believed in my mind I could write a book. That is crucial because if you do not think you can, you won’t. Second, I made a plan and I am now executing that plan.
What I would love for you to do today is believe that you can accomplish your goal, make a plan to get it done, and then execute it with Ironman precision. I hope this has been helpful to you today. Let me know what your Ironman is so I can cheer you on and I will see you again next Thursday for another #ThoughtFULLThursday.
